Screening Services
Early vascular disease detection has great value - it can significantly reduce the risks of subsequent disability and death from vascular disease. Individuals with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) have four times the risk for heart attack than those without PAD.
Aortic Screening
An aneurysm is an abnormal ballooning or enlargement of a blood vessel. When this happen in the abdominal portion of the aorta (the largest blood vessel in the body) it is known as an abdominal aortic aneurysm. As an aneurysm enlarges its risk of rupture dramatically increases and rupture can be fatal. It is very important to know if you have an aneurysm, and have it repaired electively.
Stroke Screening
Carotid artery disease typically occurs when the carotid arteries, the main blood vessels to the brain, develop a buildup of plaque caused by atherosclerosis, or a hardening of the arteries. When the buildup becomes severe, it can cause a stroke. If carotid artery disease is detected and treated, physicians can prevent many strokes.
PAD Screening
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is commonly known as hardening of the arteries. PAD increases a person's risk of heart attack by four times and stroke by two to three times. With this condition, the arteries that supply blood to the legs become narrowed or clogged, slowing or stopping the flow of blood. Often, these conditions do not produce symptoms.
Vascular Specialists of Central Florida (VSCF) has a vascular disease screening program aimed at the early detection of vascular disease.
Our screening program involves the following three, painless, noninvasive tests:
- Carotid Duplex (Carotid Artery Ultrasound Scan)
- Abdominal Duplex (Aorta Ultrasound Scan)
- Ankle Brachial Indes (Test of blood flow to the legs)
Each screening is evaluated by a VSCF physician who specializes in vascular disease. Patients receive their preliminary test results immediately following the scan from a registered vascular technologist.
Cost
Medicare and many insurance companies do not cover the costs of vascular disease screening in people that do not have symptoms. Therefore VSCF provides a low cost alternative:
$99 for all three tests
Or
$40 for each individual test
